These Boots Were Made For Walkin'

I know I haven't posted much lately and that is due to my unusually chaotic life lately, but I am going to try to keep up with posting what I'm doing. My new obsession has been photo editing. This is one of my favorites from my last photoshoot with my mom. She is so great with the camera. I have been dying to show of my cowgirls and we couldn't resist when we found this old truck.

I'll have more pictures to come. Enjoy! =)

Learning From the Best

Don Gerds Perspective and Marker Workshop at Johnson County Community College 2012

I got the opportunity to learn from the best this weekend at a Perspective and Marker Workshop taught by Don Gerds (instructor at Santa Monica College). Don teaches these workshops all over the United States and we were just lucky enough to have him here in KC.

These are just a few pictures of drawings I created at the workshop. It was so much fun and now I have a new medium I'm not so scared of anymore! =)

Sketches include: Wooden Box, Chrome Planter, Living Room Perspective Sketch, Glass Table with Wooden Frame, Wooden Desk, Brass Lamp, and Scene outside a window.

Hello Vintage!

Vintage has always been a love of mine. Pieces with "rough around the edges" kinda love have always caught my eye. So, ever since I started my education in Interior Design, a vintage drafting table has been at the top of my long list of wants (and trust me, it's a long list).

With the help of my amazing grandparents, I can now check this item off! We went hunting for an old drafting table and found half of what we were looking for. After turning away and driving all the way out to the road, we knew we had to turn back! It was an offer just too good to resist.

My grandpa did is homework and found an amazing craftsman to replace the particle board top with a beautiful piece of solid oak. It turned out better than I had imagined, and I'm so glad it's mine =)

Retired Navy Diver

Here is my latest (and most challenging) Sketchy Kreation: He is a retired Navy Diver in his Mark V suit. This sketch put me completely out of my comfort zone. There were lots of little details within the subject that easily frustrated me. But I kept pushing through and I'm so glad I did! I loved the way it turned out.

In a Rut...

Being stuck in a creative rut is where I often find myself. With all of the holidays lately I find it hard to stay focused on creating new things. I look to this list for helpful tips on how to get my ideas OUT!

Merry Christmas!

Cup rings on our coffee table back home are now a thing of the past! Thanks to The Cottage Home blog for the inspiration to create my own coasters for my mom for Christmas. I used My Mind's Eye papers on top 4x4 inch glass tiles to create this shabby chic style. They show off ripped edges and tainted corners to portray life's beautiful imperfections.
